Foreword

Violence has taken a sickening toll on American society.
We have been all but brought to our knees by now, as all of us live at risk of violence and many of us have been personally, horribly touched by its sting.

This is a book about those whose lives have been touched by violence, far too intimately. It is written by a man who knows the vicissitudes of this darkness from personal experience, having lost his wife and the mother of his children to a senseless, brutal murder. This book is a product of his own path to survival and ultimately to transcendence. His personal victimization and subsequent journey to healing through the power of love is a tale of triumph and survival with much to teach us all.

Dick Gayton is a man who has felt the wound, a healer who has himself been healed, and a voice of hope in a seemingly hopeless situation.

Whoever you are, if you need this book, I'm so glad you've found it. Dick Gayton now joins you on the road to your recovery. This book is a guide for you, a friend and a source of solace. While people are free to wreak havoc on the world, let us join in the thought that God shall have the final say. As it says in the Bible, "God himself shall wipe away all tears."

Keep reading. Keep praying. The light will come. You will find what Dick has found: hope again, and peace again. Other have made it through this pain, through the grace of God. And you will, too. You will, too.
